Fine Filtration The purpose of Fine Filtration is to remove yeast and for bio-burden reduction prior to cold stabilisation or ‘sterile filtration’. For this application we recommend Amazon SupaPore PPG cartridges rated at 1.2 micron absolute. As with Trap Filtration, the housing should be fully flowed, fully draining and suitable for CIP (Clean In Place) and/or steaming. The Amazon 62 Series and 64 Series are ideal for these requirements, as are the Amazon 70 Series housings. Fine Filtration is generally only used where cold stabilisation or ‘sterile filtration’ is used, as protection to that stage downstream, but can be used in some cases where a reduction in bio-burden is required prior to pasteurisation (to reduce the energy requirement for the pasteurizer, either to reduce costs and decrease the environmental impact or to reduce the degradation of the beer that excess heat may cause). For this application, Amazon SupaPore PPG cartridges rated at 1.2 micron absolute would typically be used. |
