liquid filters Amazon Filters was founded in 1985 by Mike Pizzey, an engineer with nearly 20 years previous filtration experience, primarily with liquid filters used in chemical process systems.

Drawing on Mike's wide experience of liquid filters and applications, Amazon was able to grow rapidly in its early years, bringing in experienced staff and moving to its own premises within its first three years of operation.

Amazon launched it's first own manufactured product range in 1986, the filter housing range that has evolved into the present day 60 Series, still one of our most popular lines. This was followed by a rapid expansion of Amazon designed and manufactured filter housings, fuelled by demand for these high quality, well-engineered products from both end-users and other filter companies.

Today, Amazon is proud of its reputation for supplying one of the largest ranges of filter housings available on the market, with quality, delivery and customisation to the fore, along with our renowned attention to detail.

In 1991, Amazon began its long association with its partners in Poland, the Warsaw University of Technology and Secura Nova Ltd.

This presented both partners with a tremendous opportunity - Amazon gained access to an excellent technical partner in the field of fibre technology, and our partners gained access to an experienced and committed filtration application and sales team.

The result of this partnership is the product ranges that have evolved into the SupaSpun II absolute spunbonded depth cartridges (available in polypropylene and nylon and PPS), the SupaGard nominal rated polypropylene spunbonded depth cartridge and the VisClear nominally rated nylon depth cartridge, all of which are commonly acknowledged as being amongst the best in their fields.

Just as importantly, the partnership is still going strong, and has resulted most recently in the formation of the joint venture production company MicroSpun Products Ltd, (with its base within the University premises), the refurbishment of the University laboratory facilities and environs, the installation of new fibre development and filtration test equipment and continued investment in strong research and development programs.

Over the years, Amazon has continued to expand in terms of turnover, facilities, people and market share. We have established ourselves as a major presence in the UK filtration market and, in association with our distribution partners, we are beginning to establish ourselves worldwide.

We have achieved a compound annual growth of around 20% per year, and are proud that we have been profitable throughout our existence.

We have improved our facilities and production capacity dramatically year on year (including the introduction of clean room cartridge assembly areas for Microfiltration products), including the opening of extensive new warehouse and office facilities early in 2001, and a major production area extension and upgrade in 2004.

We have continued to improve and expand our product range, and improve our test and technical facilities.

Our plans for the future are clear: we intend Amazon to be recognised worldwide as a name synonymous with high quality, well engineered solutions to filtration problems.

We are committed to achieving this aim, and we strive for excellence in the key areas of product quality and performance, Customer Service, delivery and application knowledge to help us achieve these goals.

 Relationship with Microspun Products Ltd

Amazon Filters are proud to be partners with Secura Nova Ltd. in the joint venture company MicroSpun Products Ltd, one of the worlds leading specialists in spunbonded fibre technology for filtration applications.

MicroSpun, based in Warsaw, Poland, is the product of a long-term relationship between Amazon and our Polish partners (namely, Secura Nova Ltd. and Warsaw University of Technology), which began with the breaking down of the Iron Curtain in the late 1980's.

Based within the Warsaw University of Technology's premises, it has exclusive access to the extensive laboratory and test equipment available, as well as being at the cutting edge of developments in fibre technology and filtration test methodologies by the University's world renowned Fibre Research Team. This academic/commercial collaboration has proved highly successful for all parties, and we are all justly proud of the contribution that MicroSpun makes to the University facilities and life.

MicroSpun Production develops and manufactures the SupaSpun II range of absolute rated spunbonded filter cartridges in polypropylene, nylon and PPS using some of the most sophisticated fibre production techniques found anywhere. It is the control of, and ability to vary, fibre sizes that is the key to making the SupaSpun II range what we believe is the best absolute rated depth cartridge on the market - whether judged by consistency, filtration efficiency, dirt holding capacity or pressure drop.

The extensive test facilities available mean that the SupaSpun II product range has been subjected to tests designed to simulate most application permutations possible, including filtration efficiency at high flow rates and high-pressure differentials.

MicroSpun Products are proud to be ISO 9001:2000 accredited, as well as achieving the prestigious AQAP-120: 1995 Quality System award for the defence industry.

All of MicroSpun Products worldwide sales and marketing activities are handled via the UK offices of Amazon Filters, making this the ideal partnership to extend the market penetration of the SupaSpun II product range.

 People

Name: Mike Pizzey
Function: Managing Director
Mike is the founder and major shareholder of Amazon Filters and is justly proud of what has been achieved in building the company from nothing. A mechanical engineer with 20 years experience in filtration even before starting Amazon, Mike is notoriously fussy about product quality and demands the highest standards for our customers. A motorsport fanatic, this may offer some clues to explain Amazons sponsorship of the young racing driver Darren Turner.

Name: Jeff Kirby
Function: Sales Director
Joining the company in 1987 with previous sales experience in process filtration, his knowledge and understanding of applications and use of cartridge and bag filters in the liquids processing industry is second to none. A family man with 3 young boys to look after, he still finds time to enjoy being a keen motorcyclist and DIY buff.

Name: Karl Pizzey
Function: Operations Director
Karl has been with the company right from the start, and knows it inside out. His responsibilities encompass all the fulfilment of customer order activities - purchasing, manufacturing logistics, sales order entry, despatch and delivery. Karl prides himself on the integrity and flexibility of Amazons customer services team, and puts a massive amount of effort into exceeding our customers expectations. Karl is an ardent Chelsea Football Club fan, and this, coupled with his customer demand driven role, means he understands the meaning of the word stress!

Name: Neil Pizzey
Function: Manufacturing Director
Neil is responsible for getting products out on time and with the right quality standards, as well as development of Amazons next generation of products and processes. He is a Chartered manufacturing Engineer with a background in the automotive industry, so is very aware of customers with exacting expectations! Another Chelsea fan, this taught Neil the value of loyalty and humility at a young age, traits he attempts to apply to his working life.
Supporting the Directors are the Amazon external sales Staff. Please contact us on 01276 670 600 to find the Amazon representative for your area to see what they can do for you.
